What is the best way to clean my washing machine and dryer?

Cleaning your washing machine and dryer regularly prevents unpleasant smells, keeps your laundry fresh and extends the life of your appliances. Good maintenance matters even when the appliances stand in a Wastoren® washing machine cabinet.

Follow these tips for the best result:

Cleaning the outside

  • Clean the outside with a soft cloth and lukewarm water with a mild cleaning product.

  • Do not use abrasive products, to avoid scratches and damage.

A handy tip when it stands in a cabinet

Because the machines stand in a cabinet, a duster with a long handle is useful. It lets you reach the awkward spots too, such as the sides and the back.

Washing machine: cleaning the parts

  • Detergent drawer – take the drawer out and rinse it under the tap; remove detergent residue with an old toothbrush.

  • Rubber seal – wipe the rim around the door opening with a damp cloth; pull the rubber back gently to clean the folds as well.

  • Lint filter – open the flap at the front, let the remaining water drain, unscrew the filter and rinse it clean.

  • Drum – run an empty wash at 90 °C with a washing machine cleaner now and then, to remove grease, bacteria and detergent residue.

Dryer: cleaning the parts

  • Lint filter – empty it after every drying cycle and rinse it monthly.

  • Condenser or heat exchanger – rinse the condenser of a condenser dryer; on a heat pump dryer, vacuum the fins gently.

Preventing smells

Leave the door of the washing machine and dryer slightly ajar after use, so moisture can evaporate and mould gets no chance. Dose detergent according to the packaging; too much detergent is the main cause of residue and musty smells.
